On the last day of our weeks holiday I decided to try to find Dinas
station - which turned out to be 5 mins from our holiday cottage!
Garratt no 87 in Dinas shed.
A two road shed at the northern end of the line...
.. with a distinctive steam shed aroma of oil and soot!
Number plate of loco.
The 11.00 departure from Caernarfon pulling into Dinas station on
Friday 30th September 2011.
Dinas boasts a large station site with shed just round the corner.
Leaving Dinas for Porthmadog. We returned to car for leisurely drive
to Porthmadog and lunch!
The train, seen before at Dinas, now waits to enter Porthmadog
station
via the road crossing over Britannia Bridge.
With traffic stopped at flashing lights our train now runs..
..on the road section and the onto the Cob to access Porthmadog
station.
Final views of the WHR as locomotive no. 138 passes Porthmadogs
large car park..
.. with the 1415 return working to Caernarfon seen just after
crossing
Britannia Bridge.
From here to Pont Croesor the gradient is fairly easy but the
mountains
in background give a clue as to what lies ahead.
