The 1230 depature from Caernarfon to Pont Croesor, with the marina and castle in background, on Sunday 24th September 2011.

Later in same day loco no. 143 brings the 1500 hrs train from Caernarfon over Britannia Bridge, on the new street section,
and into Porthmadog station which the WHR shares with the Ffestiniog Railway.

We travelled from on the 11.00 from Caernarfon to Porthmadog and back, hauled by no. 87, on Monday 26th September 2011.
This is a view from the train between Waunfawr and Rhyd Ddu.

The trains were scheduled to pass at Ryd Ddu and almost everyone detrained to stretch their legs.

No 87 at Rhyd Ddu looking towards Beddgelert.

No. 143 brings the 10.45 from Porthmadog to Caernafon into Ryhd Ddu.

Having arrived at Porthmadog and run out onto the Cob, a diesel is attached to the rear of the train, and then hauls the
complete train, with locomotive, into Porthmadog station. Here the steam loco is released to take water.

Near to our 14.15 departure time from Porthmadog the diesel loco "Vale of Ffestiniog" runs round to pull our train, now with
steam loco at other end, onto the Cob so it can reverse and return over the WHR to Caernarfon.

Steep gradients up to Beddgelert require a pause here for water - and a chance for a photograph or 2!

Now back at Rhyd Ddu we wait for loco 143 to cross with its 14.30 train from Caernarfon.

Driver is about to exchange the single line token.

Its 16.50 and we are now back at Caernarfon where loco is being uncoupled...

... so it can run round and return the empty stock to Dinas 2 or 3 miles away. This was a most memorable railway
journey with superb scenery and very helpful on train staff.
