Welshpool & Llanfair Railway

The first train of the day entering Welshpool Raven Square station.


It was a 3 coach train hauled by 1927 built Kerr Stuart "Joan".

"Joan" reverses onto train ready for the 11.15 departure from Welshpool.


At Llanfair Caereinion "Joan" strengthens the service train by one coach.


With extra coach coupled the loco negotiates the pointwork - "Earl" stands in steam in front of loco shed.

The "Welsh Tea Extra Train", hauled by "The Earl", is seen arriving at Castell Caereinion where it will cross the service train.


The Castell Caereinion signalman kindly shows me the complicated staff & ticket which will be exchanged with
 Llanfair
Caereinion trains Welshpool to Llanfair Caereinion staff & ticket.


The Llanfair bound train, hauled by "Joan", is shown a yellow flag by the signalman.


The staff & tickets are exchanged with the footplate crew.


The service train now about to depart Castell Caereinion as the fireman operates the level crossing control.
