The Grimsby
to Peterborough line closed in Oct 1970 and a single line was
maintained until 1980 between Grimsby and Louth for freight.
An EE type 1 is seen returning to Grimsby
from Louth in 1971 just north of Peakes Tunnel. Trains at this time
only used the old up line in both directions.

The above train passes
Hainton Street down distant signal and can be seen passing Grimsby
Peakes Lane Fire Station with Coutaulds Ltd sports
& Social club in front. Also in view are the cooling towers of
Grimsby power station in Moss Road.

What a shame that this
superb alignment, straight almost to Louth, is now lost forever under
the Peakes Parkway (A16) road!

Looking south with Peakes
Tunnel. There is still a modern overbridge on Peakes Parkway at this
point.

Looking north from same
spot - fire station tower can just be seen on right.
