Signalling notes(courtesy of John Nicholson)
After severe rationalisation in the
area, a simple single lead junction, just to East Side, was
retained and a much lesser signal provided as seen in the
above photo by Peter Brackenbury. A post with the Up
Starter to Fish Dock Road and Fish Dock Road fixed distant
beneath, and on a bracket a subsidiary type signal for moves
to East Side. With the level crossing replaced by the
road flyover, and with little rail traffic to the docks in
this period, there was little need to actually man the
signalbox, so a "Block Switch" was installed so the box
could be opened only as necessary. The Block Switch,
when switched "Through" would pass block instrument
communications straight between Pasture Street (By then the
next box still in use towards Grimsby Town) and Fish Dock
Road. The main line running signals would be left "Pulled Off"
in both directions. |
