The Great Orme Tramway, Llandudno

8th September 2014

Car No. 4 seen begining the ascent of The Great Orme from Victoria Station in Llandudno.

Soon afterwards car no. 5 came into view coming towards Victoria Station, down the very steep road section...

.. which thankfully is a one way street.

Car no. 4, seen from car no. 5, leaving the passing loop midway on the first section.

Halfway Station, which houses the winding gear for upper and lower sections of the tramway. Passengers
alight here and walk through the building to board another car which will take them to the summit.

The two cable drums which operate the lower section tram cars, with control cabin behind.

We were very fortunate to be part of a small group who had arranged a visit  behind the scenes of the tramway.
Car no. 6 stands at the upper end of Halfway Station waiting for passengers for the summit. Notice the cables
running above the service pit. One car is stored here overnight.

The upper section cables seen looking back towards the control cabin.

Looking out of Halfway Station up the Great Orme, we can see the cars approaching the passing loop.

Car no. 7 arriving at Halfway Station from the summit.
