In mid December 1988 British Rail was forced to temporarily withdraw the fleet of class 155 Sprinters. As a result the
Cleethorpes to Barton on Humber service became a loco hauled train as stock was transferred to other routes.
On the first day of loco hauled trains, 19th December 1988, 31439 arrives at Barton with the 1108 from Grimsby Town.
