Saturday 4th March - a sunny but bitterly cold day following the
previous days snow.
This is the AFRPS platform situated just off Brigg Rd Scunthorpe.
The train arrives at the Frodingham platform at 11.00, hauled by
Corus diesel no. 53
and appears to have a number of freight wagons in the rake!
We soon arrive at the loco shed and workshops of the AFRPS - seen
from tour brakevan.
Yorkshire Engine Co. diesel "Arnold Machin" is used to remove the
surplus wagons
and we continue as a loco and two brake vans.
Passing the blast furnaces at the Corus plant.
Half way through the tour the train returns to the loco shed
where Peckett no. 1438 (formerly at
Nechells power station in Birmingham) is seen receiving boiler and
motion work.
1438`s builders plate.
Frames and running gear of Hunslett WD austerity no 193 "Shropshire"
in progress of rebuild.
End of tour - No. 53 seen back at Frodingham platform approx 3.30
pm - snow melted!
Passengers have all detrained as the loco and brake vans return
to depot.
This was a very enjoyable day out, despite the cold conditions - the vans both had coal stoves.
